Apostolate
The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord Is.61:1-2
The Church has received a divine mandate to preach the Gospel to all peoples and nations. We see Jesus person oriented all throughout His public life. He was so compassionate in His dealings with each one. He was moved by the physical mental and spiritual ailments of the people and responding to these in their own language. Our founder being taken up by this compassionate aspect of Jesus was so generous in his attitude and dealings with each one he met. The spirit behind the Daughters of St.Thomas was nothing but this. He was always keeping a soft corner in his mind for the suffering and the needy. In confirmation with the charism of direct evangelization and the spirit of compassionate love DST takes up all forms of apostolate which directly or indirectly bring forth the kingdom of God on the face of the earth. DST undertakes the following apostolate: Pastoral care, catechetics, formal and non-formal education, hospitals and dispensaries, family apostolate, social work, training and rehabilitation of the mentally challenged, physically handicapped, caring of the aged, prison ministry, mass media, social empowerment of the weak and the women, tribals and marginalized and the like.
